Kolkata – Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, embarks on a three-day business summit in Spain to attract investments for her state. Joining her are high-ranking state officials and industry representatives, with a focus on the upcoming Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) in Kolkata. Despite opposition criticism, Banerjee remains steadfast in her mission.
Spain, known for its thriving industries, extends a warm invitation to West Bengal, building on their partnership from the International Book Fair earlier this year. Banerjee’s overseas engagements also include a business summit in Dubai to bolster investment prospects.
Her journey commenced at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, with Madrid as her destination. Notably, her delegation includes representatives from esteemed Calcutta football clubs like Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly will accompany her in Madrid, underscoring her dedication to football development in Bengal.
While Banerjee maintains optimism about her mission, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Chief, questions her investment track record, raising concerns about taxpayer funds. Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, critiques her use of Dubai as a transit point, emphasizing the need for tangible benefits from her foreign visit to benefit West Bengal.
