US and China Call for End to Iran Conflict and Reopening of Key Shipping Route

Beijing – The United States and China have both expressed support for ending the conflict involving Iran and reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, following discussions between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping during Trump’s state visit to China.

A spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry urged the continuation of the ceasefire and stressed that the war “should never have happened.” According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, the spokesperson said an early resolution to the conflict would benefit not only the United States and Iran but also countries across the region and the wider international community.

China also highlighted the importance of reopening maritime trade routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the world’s busiest and most significant oil shipping passages. Officials warned that disruptions to shipping could affect global supply chains and economic stability. The spokesperson called for international cooperation to ensure the safe and smooth movement of trade through the region.

Speaking to reporters in Beijing, Trump said the United States and China shared similar views on the issue. He stated that both countries wanted the conflict to end and did not want Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

“We want that to end, and we don’t want them to have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said. “We want the straits open.”

The president described the situation in the region as “a little bit crazy” and said both nations believed restoring stability was important for global security and trade.

During the second day of Trump’s visit, Xi Jinping described the relationship between China and the United States as “constructive and strategically stable.” Chinese state media reported that the two leaders discussed a range of “regional hot issues,” although no detailed information was released regarding Iran, Taiwan, or trade tariffs.

Trump also praised China’s hospitality and described relations between the two countries as “very strong.” He announced that Xi Jinping is expected to visit the United States in September, signalling continued diplomatic engagement between the world’s two largest economies.

The discussions reflect growing international pressure to maintain peace in the Middle East and protect crucial global trade routes.
